New MATA Shuttle Route Coming to Shelby Farms Park on 9.10.16
September 07, 2016
MATA, Shelby Farms Park Conservancy and Agricenter International today announced Route 47, a route which will enable Memphians to easily connect to several of the city’s favorite destinations on the weekend. The route will begin operating on September 10 and is scheduled to run Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 am to 6:15 pm (map + schedule included below).
Route 47 will pick up at State Road and Mullins Station Road and will bring customers to stops at Shelby Farms Park and Agricenter International including First Tennessee Foundation Visitor Center, Woodland Discovery Playground, FedEx Event Center and the Farmer’s Market. In addition, customers can easily connect to the Shelby Farms Park - Agricenter Route from the Summer Avenue Route (#53).
“Shelby Farms Park belongs to everyone in our community, and we’re always looking for ways to increase accessibility. We are thrilled about this new route that will give more Memphians an easy way to access Shelby Farms Park, especially the new Heart of the Park amenities, on the weekend,” says Jen Andrews, Executive Director, Shelby Farms Park Conservancy. “We’re grateful that our partnership with MATA will enable us to welcome more visitors than ever before via green public transportation.”
Ron Garrison, Chief Executive Officer, MATA, agrees, “We understood the value of the air quality and emissions reduction benefit that would be realized by people choosing the shuttle route to access Shelby Farms Park and Agricenter International. Given the number of annual visitors to Shelby Farms Park, this just made sense for MATA to serve this area in an effort to connect people to one of the largest urban parks in the nation.”
“Agricenter is pleased to partner with Shelby Farms Park Conservancy and MATA to provide a bus route that includes a stop at Agricenter Farmer’s Market,” says John Butler, President, Agricenter International.
The new route will be funded through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration’s Congestion Mitigation and Air Qualty Improvement (CMAQ) Program.
