Hello, again, friends!

Everest here. Happy Buffalo Month of July! Hope you’re as excited as I am. And I hear y’all are helping us come up with names for all our new baby buffalo. Really appreciate it.
Since it is Buffalo month, I figured I should update you guys again on my goings on with St. Ann’s second grade class. Before I do that though, I wanted to remind everyone about why I’m writing, or perhaps inform our first-time readers. I am a buffalo, out here at Shelby Farms, and a few months back I was lucky enough to be adopted by the second grade classes at St. Ann Catholic School in Bartlett through the Shelby Farms Adopt-a-Buffalo program.
These journal entry posts tell the stories of my adventures to the homes of those second graders. Here’s an entry from March 30, when I got to go home with Madeline.

Today I went home with Madeline. We had to go to karate but it was not time yet. So we went to Mcdonalds and had ice cream. The ice cream was so good! Then we went to the ATA for karate and we waited a long time I do not like waiting! Then we went inside for class. I stayed in the car to listen to the news channel. Then we went to the house and did homework and then had dinner we had pizza and noodles. It was yummy! Then we watched T.V and then brushed our teeth take a bath and then go to bed. In the morning we had for breakfast and put our uniforms on and brushed our hair and our teeth and go to school. THE END

Yummy is right. Ice cream and pizza and noodles. Oh, and speaking of good food, did you hear that the great, kind folks at the Shelby Farms Park Conservancy are throwing the buffalo a party? And everyone’s invited! It’s July 25th from 10-2 at the Park, and it’s sponsored by Buffalo Wild Wings. Yes, we’re ironic buffalo.

So before I go, I just wanted to spell out the naming contest for everyone so that you guys can all pick us some great names. Everyone can submit one name, and you can send it in any number of ways. There’s the facebook page, and they even have a special facebook event for it. There’s our official buffalo email address, buffalo@shelbyfarmspark.com. You can call 901-767-PARK, or you can simply come on into the Park, say hi to us over here in the Range, and then head into the Visitor Center to submit in person. I hear that over 125 people have already submitted names, so hurry on up to the rest of you.
Alright, that’s my post for now. Typing out a whole blog post with your horns is tough business, and I live a life of leisure. So, until next time, well wishes from the wildlife out at Shelby Farms Park.

Sincerely,
Everest the Buffalo

As part of the Adopt-a-Buffalo program, each adopting family receives an official Shelby Farms Park toy buffalo. Of course, Everest was not able to be taken home from the Park. Each night, the toy buffalo was taken home by a member of the second grade classes at St. Ann, and each child was asked to write a journal entry about his or her time with “Everest”. These journal entries will be shared here over the coming summer months. To learn more about the Adopt-a-Buffalo program and how you can get involved, visit our website at http://www.shelbyfarmspark.org/sfpc/, scroll over the option at the top of the page that encourages you to “Get Involved”, and click on Adopt-a-Buffalo.
