New Buffalo Join the Shelby Farms Park Herd

MEMPHIS, January 27, 2009.  Shelby Farms Park Conservancy (SFPC) will introduce 28 new buffalo to their resident herd this week as a part of the organization’s enhanced buffalo management plan.  The buffalo are a donation from Jeff and Traci Lowe of Medina, Tennessee.  The new herd members will join the 17 buffalo currently at Shelby Farms Park, who recently received a clean bill of health after their latest check-up.

Memphis, November 19 - Shelby County government and the Shelby Farms Park Conservancy are breaking new ground this month as construction begins on an innovative restroom facility in the Plough Park area of Shelby Farms Park. The new restroom, which will introduce sustainable elements, is one of many early improvements scheduled for the Park and is a first step towards the transformation of the Plough Park play area.

In a possible first step toward developing a long-sought hiking and biking trail through much of Memphis, a nonprofit group says it has reached a preliminary agreement to acquire part of an idle railroad corridor on behalf of Shelby County.

TDEC highlights Lucius Burch Natural Area on National Trails Day--June 7

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation-Natural Areas Division is hosting a trail repair and maintenance day at Shelby Farms Park in the Lucius Burch Jr. State Natural Area. Volunteers will repair the Blue Trail by re-routing sections around wet areas, removing privet, building steps and short boardwalks and installing signs at the trails heads.

Shelby Farms Park Conservancy Selects field operations to Design Shelby Farms Park

Firm will now creat plan based on public input

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – The Shelby Farms Park Conservancy announced today that field operations, a highly respected landscape architecture firm based in New York City, has been chosen to design the Master Plan for Shelby Farms Park.

“We are thrilled to work with field operations on this groundbreaking project,” said Barbara Hyde, chair of the master plan committee for Shelby Farms Park Conservancy. “field operations has an incredible passion for Shelby Farms Park and the citizens of Memphis and Shelby County, a passion that is matched by their talent and desire to create the greatest American park of the 21st Century.”
“Now, it’s time to go to work, creating a plan that represents the potential of this 4,500 acre community asset, and the thoughts the public has shared throughout the Master Plan process,” said Hyde.
